The Tucson LGBTQIA+ Archives®© aka Arizona LGBTQIA+ Archives®©
are part of Arizona's first 1967 Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgenger Queer
archives effort that began collecting, preserving, and archiving Arizona's LGBTQ+
 Gay Lesbian Queer History in the 1960's while often
experiencing harassment, danger, threats & physical harm.

The focus of the Tucson LGBTQIA+ Archives and its mission is soley the collection,
preservation, and digital vitual access of historical related Arizona LGBTQIA+ photographs,
manuscripts, event posters, LGBTQIA+ related publications, journals & diaries, documentaries,
audio tapes, Super 8 & 35mm Films, Micro Film, VHS-Beta-CD-DVD recordings of events,
audio sound recordings, interviews, art works, LGBTQIA+ Events T-Shirts & Memorabiia
along with other LGBTQIA+ Gay Lesbian items for inclusion into the permanent
Tucson LGBTQIA+ Archives®© for their preservation
and access for current and future generations.

The Tucson LGBTQIA+ Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer Intersex Asexual+ Archives
are Arizona’s original Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual+ (LGBTQIA+)
archives collections of the original archiving effort began in 1967
later to be renamed the Arizona LGBTQ+ Museum/Archives.


As a community-state-multi state focused archives
founded as a physical and digital archives
 the Tucson LGBTQIA+ Archives uses and pulls the concept of

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queer, Intersex, Asexual +

into the thousands of artifacts, exhibits, items, and records being collected,
preserved, and made digitally available to the world.
 
The Tucson LGBTQIA+ Archives all-volunteer archivists work closely
with many diverse LGBTQIA+ communities throughout Arizona, the United States,
and around the world developing archives that are for,
 by, and about LGBTQIA+ History it represents.
A comprehensive archives that fully encompases the many people,
organizations, events, and contributions that so many have made.

Mission Statement
The Tucson LGBTQIA+ Archives of the Arizona LGBTQ+ Museum work
 with many heterogeneous Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex [LGBTQIA+],
Gender Non-Conforming, and Two Spirit Communities throughout Arizona, around the United States,
and in other countries of the world identifying, preserving, and protecting the many records,
manuscripts, papers, photographs and ephemera of LGBTQIA+ History that document
the distinct histories of these communities.

The Tucson LGBTQIA+ Archives Mission:

Collecting and maintaining the many individual stories, papers, photographs, videos,
oral histories, home movies, artwork, clothing items, 
and other distinct various forms of historical records reflecting many hundreds of years
of combined generations insights and knowledges.
Areas of collecting interest are specified below in a separate Collection Development Policy
to collect and maintain these historical items and records of enduring historical significance
 to current and future organizations, community groups, safe spaces,
including identified organizational efforts supporting LGBTQIA+ lives throughout Arizona.

The Tucson LGBTQIA+ Archives recognizes that the LGBTQIA+ communities are diverse
and heterogeneous and hold complicated, contradictory, as well as complementary histories
that can all come together here as valid everyday knowledges and truths.

The Tucson LGBTQIA+ Archives works to engage with many communities, organizations,
and individuals to collect, preserve, and share these many histories and memories.

The Tucson LGBTQIA+ Archives Collection Policy

The Tucson Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer Intersex Asexual LGBTQIA+ Archives
of the now Arizona LGBTQ+ Museum since its original 1967 beginning
been aquiring-collecting the many items and exhibits materials that are forever relevant to

LGBTQIA+ individuals, groups, and organizations involved supporting LGBTQIA+ lives.
Items collected include tens of thousands of stories, papers, records, manuscrpits,
publications, ephemera, original photographs, home movies, event posters,
government records, videos, digital and many other materials,

including but not limited to artifacts, such as art, crafts, and apparel.

As one of the worlds major stewards of  LGBTQIA+ histories,
the Tucson LGBTQIA+ Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer Intersex Asexual Archives
works to preserve the history of the events and people between the 1700's and 2020's
and beyond for current and future generations.
